New energy and expertise for Geego

Welcome, Jenny Gustafsson – the newest addition to Geego, advancing children’s physical well-being!

The Geego team welcomes a new member, Jenny Gustafsson, who is full of energy and passion for making the world a better place for children. Jenny’s background and passion for promoting children’s well-being make her the perfect addition to our team.

Education and Background

Jenny hails from Southern Finland and has acquired an extensive educational background that supports her mission at Geego. She graduated from the University of Jyväskylä with both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Health Sciences. During her studies, she focused especially on health promotion. She complemented her Bachelor’s degree with minors in Exercise Biology and Human Resource Management and her Master’s degree with minors in Sports Medicine and Nutrition.

Jenny’s academic background has provided her with a strong foundation in how to improve health and well-being at both the individual and community levels. This expertise is invaluable to Geego as we develop new ways to support children’s physical development.

Why Did Jenny Choose Geego?

Jenny has always wanted to work with children. She believes that children are highly dependent on the actions of adults, and their well-being is closely tied to the support they receive from their environment. Jenny is concerned about children’s physical and mental well-being, and this concern has driven her to seek ways to improve the situation.

It is particularly important to her that all children have the same opportunities to learn physical skills and, through success, realize their potential for the future. Jenny emphasizes that physical activity is not just about movement; it also builds self-esteem, social skills, and the ability to set goals in life.

Jenny herself enjoyed a diverse childhood filled with various activities such as soccer, horseback riding, taekwondo, athletics, and cheerleading. She understands that the current situation has changed—hobbies are expensive, physical activity patterns have shifted, and smart devices are here to stay. This is precisely why Jenny feels it is important to use smart devices in a quality way to support children’s physical development.

Jenny’s Research on the Impact of Digital Media on Children’s Motor Skills

Jenny’s master’s thesis addressed a current and important topic: The connections between parents’ and 3-4-year-old children’s use of digital media and the children’s motor skills and physical activity. The research provided valuable insights into how the use of smart devices affects young children’s physical development.

The results of Jenny’s research showed that the use of digital media can have both positive and negative connections to children’s motor skills and physical activity. The study highlighted that the role of parents seems to be significant in this regard—the way digital media is used in child-rearing can either support or hinder a child’s physical development, depending on how smart devices are used.

The topic requires further research, but the results suggest that quality and controlled media use could offer children opportunities to learn new skills and get excited about physical activity, while excessive passive use or poorly managed digital media use could impair the development of children’s motor skills.

Jenny’s strong research background and deep understanding of the impact of digital media on children’s physical development make her an excellent addition to the Geego team.
